Frost arrived quietly in the night.
By morning, the orchard has turned silver.
Bare branches glitter beneath the pale winter sun, each twig traced delicately in white. Yet amongst them, flashes of crimson remain.
Cranberries glow against the frost. Red apples hang cold and glossy from darkened branches, their crisp sweetness cutting through the morning air with bright lemon and orange.
As the sun climbs, something warmer begins to stir.
Ginger and clove rise beneath the fruit. Mandarin catches the light while dried peel brings a deeper sweetness as the frost slowly retreats from the branches.
For a moment, the whole orchard glows.
